And Another Thing

While I’m talking computers, I think it’s worth mentioning that I have had to remove Norton 360 from four computers over the past three weeks or so. (These are not work computers, but computers that people have brought to me). The performance improvement on all four of those computers was dramatic. Two of them were unusably slow, forcing me to remove Norton just to be able to run Malware removal software.

These are PC’s I’m talking about, of course, and all were running Windows XP. The current product I’m recommending is SpySweeper with Antivirus from Webroot, and it seems to be doing the job well.

Another note: if you remove Norton to replace it, it’s very important that you run the Norton removal tool, because Uninstall leaves too much behind.

90% of the PC’s that come my way have slowed to a crawl and require a virus sweep, malware removal, and defragmentation. They also generally need a cleanout of programs that run automatically on boot. It’s best to sweep for malware occasionally before things get bad, even if you have malware protection like SpySweeper. I use Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware.

I’m seriously considering making my next home computer a Mac. Do Macs have these problems?
